National Resource Center

ISEEES is the Title VI National Resource Center (NRC) for Eastern Europe and Eurasian studies at UC Berkeley, one of eight centers on the Berkeley campus. ISEEES—originally as the Center for Slavic and East European Studies—has served as an NRC continuously since 1957.

The US Department of Education, under Title VI, administers a program of grants to National Resource Centers and Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowships. This program promotes, develops, and improves instruction in modern foreign languages and area and international studies critical to national needs. ISEEES is grateful for their recognition and their support.

ISEEES is directed by Yuri Slezkine, professor of history, and Jeffrey Pennington is executive director of ISEEES.
