Liladhar Pendse appointed as the new Slavic and East European Studies Librarian

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Liladhar Pendse as the new Slavic & East European Studies Librarian / Head of Collection Exchange Program at the UC Berkeley Library.  Liladhar joins us on September 17, 2012 and will have an office in 438 Doe Library with his colleagues in the Doe/Moffitt International & Area Studies department. Liladhar is currently the Librarian for Slavic, Eastern European, and  Eurasian Studies at Princeton University.  Prior to that position he  worked for almost ten years at the University of California, Los Angeles  in various positions including serving as the Librarian for the 
Slavic/Eastern European Studies.  In addition to his various degrees he  brings knowledge of many languages including Russian, Azerbaijani,  Armenian, Romanian and Polish.  In his position at UC Berkeley, he will have primary responsibility for enhancing the collections and user-centered services in support of research, teaching, and scholarship related to countries of the Former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, as well as responsibility for managing and assessing the Library's exchange program with partner libraries, academies, and institutions in concert with the Acquisitions Department staff. We all look forward to welcoming Liladhar this fall.

Allan Urbanic will be the 2011 Recipient of the ASEEES CLIR Distinguished Service Award

Allan Urbanic, librarian for Slavic and East European Collections, has been selected by the Association for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies (ASEEES) Committee for Library and Information Resources (CLIR) as the 2011 recipient of the ASEEES CLIR Distinguished Service Award. This award will be presented to Allan at the 43rd Annual ASEEES Convention in Washington, DC on November 19, 2011. This occasional award recognizes ASEEES member librarians, archivists or curators whose contributions to the field of Slavic, East European and Eurasian studies librarianship have been especially noteworthy or influential. Allan was nominated by his peers in the field for his contribution to the field of Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Librarianship.  Congratulations, Allan!

ISEEES Graduate Student Support Fund

We would like to thank everyone who contributed to the ISEEES Graduate Student Support Fund and helped us raise over $20,000;an effective start to capitalizing this important fund that will support graduate students in our area.
