Current Visiting Scholars

Artur Kula is a Visiting Kościuszko Foundation Student Researcher with ISEEES during the 2022 Fall Semester. During his stay at Berkeley he is working on a project entitled "Treason as a Persisting Component of Identity. A Polish Case Study," advised by Professor John Connelly (History). Artur is a PhD candidate in History at the University of Warsaw and École des hautes études en sciences sociales (EHESS) in Paris.

Sofia Tipaldou has an international interdisciplinary background with a BA in Economics from Piraeus University, an MA in European Studies from European University Viadrina, and a PhD in International Relations from Autonomous University of Barcelona. She researches nationalism, populism and far-right mobilization using ethnographic and mixed methods and has received prestigious post-doctoral grants (Fulbright Schuman, Marie- Skłodowska Curie, Wellcome Trust). Sofia’s research spans across the fields of IR, comparative politics and social movement studies and has been published in Europe-Asia StudiesEuropean SocietiesDemokratizatsiya and Revista CIDOB d'Afers Internacionals. Her monograph Nationalist Opposition in Putin’s Russia is under contract with Manchester University Press.
